The health benefits of regular exercise are well known. They range from preventing heart disease, diabetes and cancer to enjoying a longer and healthier life. Maharishi Ayurveda recognises that this effect of exercise is achieved through clearing metabolic waste that blocks the flow of prana (the life breath) and restoring mind body co-ordination.

Hence exercise is considered as a central part of the daily routine in Ayurveda. However it’s important that the type and amount of exercise is tailored to your needs. Too much exercise is deleterious to your health. In Maharishi Ayurveda it is recommended that you don’t exercise beyond 50% of your capacity. Your exercise prescription may vary from an early morning walk, to an aerobic yoga sequence, to swimming or to resistance training.

Maharishi Yoga classes are also available to learn the art of postural and breathing exercises that allow the effortless unobstructed flow of prana to vitalise and integrate mind and body. The exercises nicely complement the Transcendental Meditation technique, the mental approach of Maharishi Ayurveda.

“To stabilize any pose of mind with the cosmic pose of infinity is the purpose of Asana. That means create a habit through the program of Yoga Asanas that whatever be the state of the body, it is never out of alignment with the cosmic physiology.” —Maharishi Mahesh Yogi
